There’s lots to deconstruct in Sen. Obama’s speech today, but right off the bat, there seems to be a yawning chasm between Sen. Obama’s rhetoric and Sen. Obama’s actual record in this regard:

550 Tons of Uranium discovered in Iraq, moved to Canada - MWD program may have been real deal.
Did Saddam actually have a huge secret stash of Iraqi made Uranium after-all to fuel his supposed WMD program? It seems that answer may be a shocking yes, as it was reported today (see the below article) that 550 METRIC TONS of Uranium was apparently removed from Iraq at the Tuwaitha Nuclear Research Facility south of Baghdad slowly over the past 4 years, which we did not hear about, and the media apparently had no idea about.
The rationale was apparently to keep quiet about the stash until it was safely secured/removed and eventually sent to Canada so as not to fall into terrorist hands.
This completely changes the argument about the justification for the invasion of Iraq based on hidden nuclear weapons programs, which they may have been developing after all. As Uranium is traceable to the reactor, it is impossible to fake/plant. And as the IAEA was the custodian since 2003, and the Canadian govt the buyer/consumer, the story appears to be legitimate.
If this is true, Bush's rationale in support of the war, that Iraq has a WMD program, which Congress (Hillary and John Edwards as well as most Democrats and nearly all Republicans) voted for to legalize the invasion, and which was supported by the vast majority of the American people at the time on the basis of Iraq having a secret WMD program, may actually have been completely legitimate after-all.
In light of this story, Bush must have known, and had been keeping very quiet about this all this time, at huge political expense, even through teh 2004 presidential election, in order to keep the Uranium from falling into terrorist hands, all the while being called a 'liar' by his political opponents, and all the while still keeping this all a secret.
Here are some crucial excerpts:
"The 550 metric tons of uranium, which was sold to a Canadian company, was moved by truck convoy to Baghdad's 'Green Zone,' then flown by military aircraft to a third country where it was put on a ship for Canada, said Bryan Whitman, the spokesman.
The yellow cake was discovered by US troops after the 2003 US invasion of Iraq at the Tuwaitha Nuclear Research Facility south of Baghdad, and was placed under the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Yellowcake is a form of processed uranium ore that can be used to make fuel for nuclear reactors, or if further enriched as fuel for nuclear weapons."
Here is the first article to report on this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080707/wl_mideast_afp/usiraqcanadauraniumnuclear_080707161202;_ylt=AlowP7CL5g.7FJmh7jx2WIMUewgF
Here is another that just popped up on CNN's web site: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/07/iraq.uranium/
