Overcoming Objections: When McCain is the Runner-Up

A few weeks ago, I spent a few posts addressing potential objections to McCain's candidacy. There is another challenge ahead: appealing to people whose hearts belonged to another candidate.

Let's face it, the primaries were ugly. Mud was slung. Podiums were pounded. Nominees were chosen (fairly or unfairly), PUMAs were born. And millions of Americans are now left with two men who weren't their first choice. Here are some of the objections

Q&A with Tracy from 'Independents for McCain'

We’ve heard from Republicans and Democrats supporting McCain, today’s Q&A is with Tracy, a Mom from Austin, Texas. Tracy is the founder of 'Independents for McCain', and is one of many non-partisan people across America supporting McCain for President. Check out her blog on the Ning site or MySpace. Thanks Tracy for sharing your thoughts! Tell us about yourself.Continue

50 Ideas for the McCain Campaign

Originally posted at Moms for McCain ---------- Yes, I am a compulsive list maker. And no, these are not brilliant policy suggestions. I am not a 'wonkette', I am merely an average citizen who desperately wants a competent President. If McCain wants to win, he needs some fresh ideas to shake things up. SO, for your consideration, 50 ideas to get started. SLOGANS! McCain needs ‘em. Good ones. 1. Slogan for Townhall Podium… Continue

Here Come the Judge(s)

In a desperate effort to cling keep the women voters they screwed over, Howard Dean and cronies are threatening women with a magic word: ‘Judges.’ The assumption of course, is that McCain’s constitutionalist judges would (rightly) rule Roe v. Wade unconstitutional and 18 million Hillary supporters would thus dutifully vote for Obama. The fear-mongering Democrats forget two key things: the role… Continue

Overcoming Objections: The War

Like many Moms, I turn off the news when the dramatic "Iraq" logo sails onto the screen. I don't want my kids exposed to the violence - or the obnoxiously biased reporting that underestimates, and often undermines, our troops' efforts. (See a military Mom's take on this here.) That said, you will encounter people who hesitate on McCain because of his Iraq stance - here are some intelligent responses to Iraq object… Continue

Overcoming Objections: The Oldness

Let's face it: there is nothing McCain can do to magically become younger between now and November. Despite giving a free pass to 72-yr-old Ron Paul, and 60+ Hillary Clinton, the media continues subtle digs like "he takes medication like many aging Americans." I even saw Dr Sanjay Gupta describing a cancerous post-growth that McCain (bum-bum-bum) might have. (Um, aren't there sick people somewhere you should be helping?!) So for those who have bought into this "Oldness is Bad" campaign: what AR… Continue

Overcoming Objections: The Elephant in the Room

This week the Democratic Party anointed a liberal newcomer to seek the White House. In a year of unavoidable change, Republicans have cast their lots with John McCain – a man who challenges stereotypes not with his skin or his body parts, but with accountable, bipartisan leadership. Despite McCain’s strong bipartisan record, I’ve met Democrats and Independents who have misgivings checking any box with an “R” next to it. I believe McCain is the best candidate for “true Republicans” and moderates… Continue

Who are the undecided voters?

In the absence of obvious heirs apparent this election year, we've seen decades-old racial and gender barriers broken, party lines crossed in both directions and unique candidates emerge. I've spoken before about why John McCain is the clear choice. So why would anyone still be undecided? This week I'll be focusing on these coveted undecided voters and offering some ideas for wooing them to the McCain camp. Consider how we market McCain: Read the rest at… Continue

What McCain Should Learn From Hillary

From Moms for McCain http://moms4mccain.blogspot.com The pundit chorus has enjoyed picking over the carcass of our former First Lady’s campaign. While I take no pleasure in kicking her when she's down, her mistakes provide some 'teachable moments' for the McCain campaign. Internet fundraising and activism matters. Obama and Ron Paul have siphoned undecided voters by being *everywhere*, ready with an accusatory link or fabrications any time their candidate is mentioned. Hillary has a pro… Continue

DNC Ad Uses Lies, Soldiers Under Fire

Howard "The Scream" Dean and the DNC have created a major smear campaign targeting John McCain's Iraq policy. To be honest, I expected lies, but this clearly crossed all lines of decency and integrity. The video is disturbing and violent, see for yourself here. First, the selective memory. They quote McCain as being "fine with 100… Continue

A Clear Choice In Just 5 Questions

On The View this week, Cindy McCain commented that her husband is "very different" from the Democratic contenders - a good thing, she said, because "voters will have a clear choice.” Yet I still encounter a large number of Moms who are just plain undecided. They see explicitly conflicting stories and just don’t trust the media to make this important decision for them. If you (or a friend) can’t decide whether to vote for Obama (or Clinton) or McCain, ask yourself these quest

Johnny's Angels: The McCain Women

I've been hoping to hear more from the campaign about the incredible McCain women, and it appears my wish is being granted! I loved this piece in the Chicago Tribune. Cindy conducts herself with poise and grace even under stressful circumstances, I think she will be an outstanding First Lady. Cindy has a sub-site on the official campaign site, you can sign up as a… Continue

McCain's View From the High Road

Watching the Democrats debate tonight, I was somewhat surprised that both candidates mentioned McCain and his candidacy in their first 15 minutes. Considering that this was their night to differentiate themselves from each other, it seemed ironic to hear talk of party unity while refusing to unite on a shared ticket and giving unsolicited airtime to their shared opponent. Whether or not you believe in a liberal media bias (… Continue

Faith of Our (Bitter) Fathers?

** Links work at Moms4McCain ** In my 31 years, I have lived in Red, Blue and 'Purple states. In college I had to explain to people with Ivy League educations that yes, we did have cable TV in Ohio and no, we don't drive tractors down the streets (which, by the way, are paved). Living in Washington State now, I endure eye-rolling when I don't shell out 50% more for organic baby food for a child who has re… Continue

Is McCain conservative? from Moms4McCain

* Links work at http://Moms4McCain.blogspot.com * As McCain supporters, we have been handed a golden opportunity. The Democrats are fighting like bratty 7th-graders and all we have to do is present a united front behind an outstanding, experienced, principled grown-up. But headstrong Americans that we are, we demand much of our elected officials, and are quick to complain when they don't suit us 100%. (To quote fellow Republican Abe Lincoln, 'you can't please all of the people all of the time.… Continue
