Jim, there's not enough of us to make a difference. There are very few Americans in Qatar. There are very few with the company I work. However, there are several American air bases, but one is located in an isolated place out in the desert...self contained. Nobody sees any GIs, at least not I. There are a few American schools around with a few teachers and a few oil people, that is all. Except for Doha, it's just on big desert here. Desolate. The place makes me yearn for Alaska and Oregon.

I am from the States, but actually am in Qatar, one of the Emirate States in the Middle East.

Hi, glad to be here among you, I am an Aussie who feels that McCain is the only candidate in the contest worth supporting, and the only one who can be trusted in the difficult days ahead.

‘Joe the Plumber’ Ads.

The McCain campaign has hit pay dirt with its latest advertisement, “I am Joe,” which brings out ‘the American dream’ of succeeding in bringing dreams to fruition.

The two greatest coups of the McCain campaign have been, (1) nominating Sarah Palin for VP, as Sarah is someone most Americans identify as “One of us,” and, (2) the appearance of Joe the Plumber, the average guy who just wants to work towards a better future, whose willingness to stand up for himself resulted in th… Continue

Obama and the Greek temple of doom.

A big hat tip to ‘Born Again Redneck’ for this one.

Is this bloody idiot for real? A hell of a lot of politicians are up themselves, but Precious really takes the cake.

DENVER (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate co

The anti American Fashion.

I have been reading an excellent article from the Wall St Journal, “Anti-Americanism Is Mostly Hype,” By Foaud Ajami, who is a Bradley Prize recipient, and teaches at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of "The Foreigner's Gift" (Free Press, 2006).

This article reminds me of the time just after Labor gained office in Queensland for the first time in a generation and Wayne… Continue

Obama and stupid reasons to vote for him.

This is cross posted at RWL.

This is a comment left on one of the sites I visit frequently: -

“Actually, I kind of want Obama to win just to shut up the morally high and mighty lefties that refuse to believe racist Americans would ever elect a black man.”

I think given the context that this remark was made ‘tongue in cheek’ however I am inclined to think that this thinking is out there being taken seri… Continue

Obama, Reverend Wright, and Ethical Campaigning.

John McCain is very strongly against the advertisement run by the North Carolina GOP using the Reverend Wrights God damn America sermon. I feel that this is shortsighted as it allows Obama to run the agenda in the same way as Kevin Rudd ran it over here in the last federal election.

I don’t see how a legitimate criticism of a candidates weaknesses is negative as Obama insists. I really think that John is being too much of a gentleman for his own good. I have a great deal of respect for him and… Continue
