Declaring a Year of Jubilee Makes More Sense than Bail-outs

Unfortunately, there is not enough credit in the national coffer to 'fix' what ails our country. It is time to put both the lenders and borrowers on an equal footing and declare a 'National Year of Jubilee'.

What I am talking about is a national year of 'forgiveness', where those who lend are required by law to forgive those who have borrowed.

If this was done on a 10-12 year basis, it would put an end to long-term 20-30 year mortgages - which have done nothing but get the country into trouble.

Basically, if you can't afford it - don't buy it and lenders should not be allowed to loan money to those who can't afford it. Banks should not be handing out sub prime loans with a variable interest rate to those they know who should not be taking out a loan like that.

It is also 'irrational' to think that anyone can loan money beyond a 10-12 year period when there is not a soul on earth out there who can honestly guarantee the long-term economic viability of a borrower beyond that point, and if anyone thinks they can, then that person is simply 'gambling' and hasn't got their ducks lined up in a row, and that isn't what sound lending practice should be about. Americans like to gamble, and this is something else that accounts for the financial mess that we are facing right now.

We also have a moral dilemma as a society when we think that we can pass the cost of an excessive lifestyle on to future generations for them to pay for on top of their own cost-of-living, and if you think about it - the sheer amount of our national debt is a national disgrace because in a very real sense it is a form of 'child abuse' - passing on debt to children that we haven't even seen; children who are not even born yet and expect them to pay our bills.

And, should taxpayer money be used to fund abortions during a time of economic hardship? Do hard times justify the slaughter of the unborn? I would rather the money, if it has to be spent at all, be spent on handing out condoms, teaching 'abstinence' or social responsibility in our schools, in our churches and in our mosques.

Instead, will we opt to slaughter the unborn - the most vulnerable of society?

Obama has been telling the Muslim World that 'Americans are not their enemy'.

Maybe he thinks not, but believe me, the Islamic World knows who the enemy is by the spiritual perimeters that define the word 'enemy' in Muslim culture.

And, those definitions are not far from where the Christian faith should be.

That for many years, the United States and the Western World have moved backward from the values that are ingrained into our common heritage, comes to no surprise.

Because the preachers and prophets of doom have always been around to remind us that if we don't change our ways, we can expect judgment and even condemnation for our sins.

Well, things will otherwise unravel and one of the first to do so will be 'the economy'.

The politicians in Washington have seen impending economic disaster coming for over 15 years that I know about, and still nothing was done about it.

The collective 'will' just wasn't there.

'Fixing the economy' is not just about dumping more money into it. Fixing it will require a 'change' in behavior...and this is the 'toughest' thing for society and our leadership to do...which explains why (they), as errant children, resist. The collective will tends to take what is perceived as 'the easy way out'...which I'm saying, this time, 'won't work'.

How do I know it won't work?

Because I know that '...the whole creation has been subjected to futility, not by its own will, but by he who subjected it...for the glorious hope of the manifestation of the Children of God...I know what to expect in the end, but I know it will take tribulation to get there.

IMO, we need to quit resisting and do the Will of God; to do otherwise will just be a waste of breath, time and money.

My advice: Declare a National Year of Jubilee and stick with it every 12 years. This will end a lot of problems that we have between lenders and borrowers in our society. Many lenders will resist this idea, but the laws and precepts of God were put in motion for a reason. Resisting those eternal precepts will only bring hardship and misery to the masses, and create political and spiritual chaos within us all.

Some in the Muslim World may think of America as 'the enemy'; but, on the other hand, not target individual Americans; what they do is targeted, however, is our 'collective' potential to really make it rough on them and the rest of the world.

We do live in a rather limited geophysical biosphere - and when one element in that biosphere acts out of harmony it creates dysfunction and effect the whole.

The Muslim World is not so much judgmental over a solitary American, but what it does concern itself with is 'our collective potential and the things that we have already unleashed upon their part of the world and our potential for more of the same in the future. This is what the radicals of Islam retaliate against. This is what they target. What was 9/11 about? Ordinary Americans? No, of course not. The target was The White House, the Pentagon and those who controlled business and commerce at the World Trade Center. The 'collateral' damage that we saw and experienced as ordinary Americans was incidental in the same way that the 'collateral' damage is incidental that other nations and other peoples experience when we drop bombs on their cities, towns and villages. It is the same thing - exactly. Osama Bin Laden and his ilk were bringing it home to us.

Well, so be it. We do need 'a Year of Jubilee'...and debt 'forgiveness' would be a very good reason to celebrate.

After that, things will start to get better as long as we keep the faith. Do it every 10 or 12 years. This is the only way to level things between borrowers and lenders. God established the jubilee as an institution in Israel - and it was for a reason. He knew the nature of Man better than men knew themselves.

And I'm telling you...bail-outs won't work over the long haul. There has to be a behavioral change.
