I could'nt reply to your comments, Maggie, so please excuse me for starting another discussion. I am a registered Republican. I am unhappy with all the smear campaigns from both sides. I am unhappy with how long this campaign has gone on and all the money waisted on it. But please take a couple things in to consideration when you vote tomorrow.
Balance of Power. The President really doesn't have any power except these important items: Selection of Judges, Veto Power and most importantly, Commander in Chief or our armed services.
Selection of Judges. America needs judges that will not alter or be sympathetic of our constitution. The minute we have 'soft' judges...this country will be in more trouble than you think.
Veto Power. The House and Senate or Democratically ruled. If a Democrat wins the seat of President, the house and senate will be able to pass most anything that they want because their President will not stand in their way. Obama already has a record of being the most liberal Senator and voted for tax increase every time he could. That's verifiable.
Commander in Chief. I am sure I don't have to explain this. (said with respect)
So please, see past the knife throwing from both sides and look at the power we have as voters and balancing out our House and Senate. Really, they are the ones that run the Country. They write the bills, they pass or not, they go into affect and we abide by them. The President doesn't do that.
But now, if Obama were to get in...the house and senate would have free reign on things like this: CA wants to regulate and monitor the temperatures in your house. If you go above a certain temperature with your heat, you will pay a fine. If you go below a certain temperature with your air conditioning, you will be fined. This bill is in CA House for signature. Or how about this one...health care for everyone. You can go into the program if you want or keep what you have. Sounds good...so if you chose to go into the Governmental Health Care program like Obama is talking about, who do you think pays for that Governmental Health Program? We do, the tax payers. So now more people go into that program...more money is going to be needed. Taxes go up. Every child gets a college education. Government pays for that...who pays the government? The taxpayers do. 95% of taxpayers will not get their taxes raised. Okay, the 5% who will get taxed make 250,000 or more a year. Who do you think those people are? They own the companies (gas stations, grocery stores, shipping companies, clothing stores, restaurants, etc) that the taxpayers all buy goods and services from. What do you think those companies are going to do? Take these tax hikes out of their profits? No, they are going to raise the prices of their goods and services onto the people and you and me and your daughter will pay for these tax programs one way or another. It's just how it is going to work.
I am sorry to write this and I hope it doesn't come across ill'willed...I am just concerned for 'balance of power' and for that reason alone, my vote will be the opposite of who rules the house or senate, whether I like the campaign or not.
