John McCain 2008

But you can't have it both ways, Obama

It's inevitable. I'm a woman, I supported Hillary Clinton during the primary, so the first question to be thrown my way, when I announce my unwavering support for John McCain, is some variant of this: "But he will make sure abortions are illegal – what about Roe v. Wade?"

That's actually a rather nice way of putting it. For example, at a friend's house last week, a woman who supports Obama first asked me if I was afraid of change (actually yes, I'm afraid of his type of change, so in that sense I suppose I am), or if I was racist (no, but that's another attack typically used). After that she got to the Roe v. Wade argument and vehemently told me that, while she would never make that choice for herself, she wouldn't let anyone tell her what to do with her body.

Let me preface this by saying that I did, as I said, support Hillary Clinton – I was actually a delegate for her. But it was a tough choice, because I had decided eight years ago that if John McCain ever ran again, I would vote for him as I did in the 2000 primary. I'm Independent, and I have no loyalty to any party (certainly not the DNC, which I think is run by a bunch of clowns these days, although I did typically vote Democratic in the past).

I am, however, also pro choice, and like the woman I was speaking to, though it's not a decision I would make for myself, it's also not one I'm willing to take away from others – although I would never take it to the extent that Barack Obama has in his support of abortion.

But back to the debate I had with this woman. She got quite upset, while I was actually very mellow. It was July 4 and I had promised not to discuss politics, but she brought the topic up. I explained that I wasn't concerned about Roe v. Wade being overturned because McCain has vowed to appoint judges who will not legislate from the bench and I take him at his word.

"I don't believe him," she said.

I also said that Obama has come out in support of the death penalty, and not just in murder cases. She said she also supported the death penalty (actually she yelled it) and I said I do, too. I pointed out that if Obama is supporting the death penalty and plans to appoint judges who are in agreement with that, they won't be the same type of judges who are pro choice, especially to his extent. (You can't have it both ways, Obama).

She said he will appoint judges who won't make decisions from the bench (hmm, I wonder where she heard that?) and I said I disagreed – he has changed his mind so many times I can't take his word for anything, especially since I don't trust his character.

That led to a debate about the character of Obama (she didn't know who Rezco, Ayers, Farrakhan, or many of his other associates were and didn't care to listen). She said, instead, "McCain may say he'll appoint those judges but he'll bow to the Republicans because he's not strong enough."

Excuse me? McCain isn't strong enough? That's when I had to stop myself – wait a minute. This man withstood 5-1/2 years of torture as a POW and has been a maverick in the Senate. He has always been bipartisan. I pointed this out to her, as well as the fact that Obama has barely spent any time in the Senate.

"Well McCain is still living in the past, in the Vietnam era. And you know what else? I'm not proud of my country either! I won't put my hand over my heart during the pledge," she threw in.

I knew she was talking about his wife, but I said instead, "Isn't that ageism?" I was getting ready to talk about sexism, but didn't have a chance. "Well, I'm older than you so I can say that," she replied, "and I'm really disappointed in you that you aren't supporting Obama after supporting Hillary. I hope you just don't vote!" She's about seven or eight years older than me, by the way.

So, go ahead and hit me with your best shots: Roe v. Wade (doesn't fly, I DO believe McCain is strong enough and I take him at his word). Racism (it's rampant, but I think Obama is the racist; just because it's reverse racism doesn't mean it doesn't count). Iraq (Obama gave two press conferences last week to "clarify" his position; I don't think even he knows what it is, and I certainly trust McCain to do a better job). The economy: Take a look at Obama's district and how the people there live, after he entered into a partnership with a private company to "improve" conditions – slum lord is all I can say.

On top of all that, after all my research into Barack Obama, the damage he would do to our country would be so far reaching that I don't think Roe v. Wade would be our biggest concern. But that's another story, soon to come.

I've taken a good, long look at the candidates and done my homework. And I've chosen the only one qualified to lead our country: John McCain.

I don't have a lot of time today, but I couldn't let this post pass without commenting on it! I wish I had been present when your friend was ranting about Obama - I've been defending McCain on the issues a little longer than you and I would have LOVED going at her. Obama now has a "watch list" section on his site where info is given to fight people on the net. I think it's a good idea and we should have one as well. So here goes, I'm only going to address the Roe V. Wade debate, and I'll pop back on later with more.

The Roe V. Wade controversy has absolutely nothing to do with abortion, and everything to do with Big Brother dictating individual lives. McCain doesn't want to overturn R V. W to abolish abortion. He wants to overturn it so that it reverts back to state governments - Little Brother. No one will be denied an abortion if he's successful in getting it overturned unless the state they live in abolishes it. Even if they do, no law stops a woman from crossing the state line and going to a state where it's legal. McCain believes in LESS government, and so do I. Obama believes the Federal Government should dictate to everyone about everything, and that my friend, is not Democracy, it's a Dictatorship. No thank you, Obama.

Try that argument sometime, it usually stops them cold. *wink*

Oh, and anyone that says to me they're not proud of this country, I quote the late Lewis Grizzard to them - "Delta's ready when you are". *L*

You made a good choice for the right reasons... If the polls today are accurate, I think many are starting to agree with both you and I.

The polls are really looking up, aren't they? If you take a close look at the RCP polls, the far left polls that are counted are the only thing keeping it at the 4 point spread. They are in reality tied, and McCain has wiped out Obama's 10 point lead from June.

There is some great new info on the McCain site. I'm putting the link here as reference for any other internet "warriors" like me.

Well said (written)! Sounds like you were talking to someone (a.k.a. 'an idiot') who hasn't researched any of the issues and is just voting with her 'feelings'. Obama makes her 'feeeel gooood' because he talks down to her level. And that level has absolutely no substance! WAKE UP everyone! Barack Husein Obama flip-flops on every statement he makes, they all do...Jesse Jackson is even back-pedaling on his statement about Obama. Didn't know the mic was hot... What? What does that matter? If you said it you must have meant it but now that it is out in public...you flip-flop. It basically comes down to this...

If you want to pay more in taxes, have a bigger Government, (the Dem's in CA tried to pass a bill that would have Gov't regulators installed on your thermostats at home and they would fine you if you used heating or A/C outside of their approved temp's), if you want our Constitution challenged, if you want to have a Nationalized Health Care Program (by the way, the Programs they want to copy from Canada and/or Europe are failing in both Countries), if you want to allow Amnesty for Illegals, if you don't want to drill for our own resources and remain dependent on Foreign resources (by the way, the Dem's showed a picture of ANWAR... beautiful, snowy covered acreage but when you look at the same area when the snow has melted, it looks like a dump) the House and Senate (yes, both majority of Dem's) have voted against drilling off the shore of S.C. (where I live) fearing oil spills and/or down turn in tourism. I just read from the SCGOP website that the rigs would be 100+ miles off shore! Can anyone even see that far? And what I consider to be the most important issue out of all of them because it would affect the entire structure of this great Nation...if you want to have 'sympathetic Judges' sworn in...than your answer is Barack HUSEIN Obama.

If you want more money in your paycheck, a smaller Gov't, drill for our own resources on our own land (by the way, 75% of Alaskans support drilling on their land (http://www.anwr.org/), if you want a health care program that allows you to pick who you want from wherever you want (finally being able to purchase HC from across state lines, which would make the HC Companies compete for your membership WHICH drives down the costs), if you want to vote in Judges who won't legislate from the bench and basically if you want someone who has more experience plain and simple in all areas important to the position of President...then you vote for John McCain.

I don't understand people these days. Barack HUSEIN Obama wants to increase tax on people that make more than 200K a year and on Corporations, taking their tax rates from 35% to 48% with a 3% add on to total 51%. Some people say that is "great! They should...those Companies/people are making too much money already"! WHAT??? And who do you think THOSE companies are going to pass on their tax increases to??? You guessed it! The people that buy from them which include the people that can't afford anymore tax increases! To think that the '$200K or less' group won't be affected is just another "smoke and mirrors" tactic.

When I asked this same person how she thought this great Nationalized Health Care Program was going to be paid for...I swear her eyes were going to roll back into her head. She didn't believe me when I said that all tax payers will be paying for this health care program and it includes paying for the people that don't have incomes, don't pay taxes or are here illegally (yes, right now, we provide free health care for illegal citizens). She didn't believe me.

People...wake up and smell the b.s.! Barack Husein Obama is asking the Nation to "drink the punch" and for those of you who do...you deserve what happens to you. I, on the other hand, will fight tooth and nail to get the strongest, most experienced Presidential candidate in the office...and that candidate is McCain.

I agree...I saw a chart with the taxes under McCain vs Obama and we'd be dead broke within a year. And I have no problem drilling here, right now (but I never did have a problem with that). Another guy I talked to said he couldn't believe I was going for McCain because he'd bring back the draft, and I just laughed. Are these people for real? I sent him some email links, hoping to open his eyes...Lord.

Understand Obama's tax increases to that tax bracket will also include farmers. 85% of all farmers in this country file under INDIVIDUAL tax returns. One can only imagine the prices in the grocery stores after this tax hits them. It's not just the wealthy elite Obama would have you believe that will be affected by his tax hike, it's our bread and butter citizens like farmers.

Oh, I agree. I'm not in the wealthy elite by any means and he'd drive me broke. I'll find the chart and post it as a blog so you can see it (you probably have, but so everyone can). Crazy.

Sad Sight: Can you imagine a man like David Petraeus answering to a superior, a Commander In Chief, like Hussein?

And BHO just shows up and plays basketball with the guys...?

Reply to This

First and foremost...I say this with respect...please address Petraeus as General Patraeus. He has earned that title and for everything that he is doing for us and our Freedom, it is the least we can do.

Now to the question...What exactly did everyone expect Barack HUSEIN Obama to do on his Freshman field trip? Nobody can brief him on EXACTLY what's going on over there because Barack HUSEIN Obama is only a Freshman Senator and DOES NOT have the clearances to get briefed. Known Fact. He is not cleared. Period.

So what will General Patraeus do if someone like Barack HUSEIN Obama were to become Commander in Chief? He would continue to conduct himself with the utmost integrity, dedication and compassion that he does today. What will happen, though, is that our military will not salute once the CIC passes them (they are not required to do so...but if you watch our military men and women today...they hold their salute long after President Bush passes them which is a sign of respect). FYI-When Clinton was in office, the Air Force Base in Colorado Springs has a hallway that hangs all the portraits of the Current and Past Presidents...Clinton's frame was empty. Something else that is interesting is, I read in a couple Blogs that Navy and Marine recruits were invited to speak at a couple High Schools in Texas and the students wanted nothing to do with it. Can you imagine? Today, we have the largest NON-DRAFT Military Force. These men and women signed up because they believed in our Country, our President and our Constitution.

So, get ready to welcome back the draft. Barack HUSEIN Obama is not a leader our men and women will risk their lives for. Remember, it's all about change.

Well Dana, First and foremost, don't get so hung up on semantics. I spoke of "General" Petraeus, as I always have, in a positive, affirming way. I am a Phd, and a veteran, and I work equally hard in my profession, but you can call me Chuck. Very patriotic of you though!

I disagree with your analysis of what a future for "Gen"Petraeus looks like with a BHO as CIC. I am willing to bet the man has other things to do than watch as BHO orders him to dismantle in 16 months what he and our other fine men and women in uniform have worked, and died for, over the past 5 years. A guy like Petraeus... "Gen" Petraeus, will win a war for ya, but it doesn't take a man like that to pack up the equipment and fly it home.

This is all so sad particularly now too, as what you won't read in the papers, or see on TV news is that the reason Afghanistan is heating up is because we have effectively won the war in Iraq, the enemy is unable to wage an effective campaign as we are killing them so efficiently and have secured the territories so well what remains are left in Iraq have few places to hide. The same would be the case in Afghanistan too, if we elect John McCain and were allowed to pursue the enemy as they retreat, eventually leading to the badlands of Pakistan where we would eventually kill the last terrorist standing.

I do agree with you that our schools, and that includes our high schools as a result of trickle down from our universities, have become havens of Socialist - Marxist thinking! It is a real problem that Young America's Foundation does a great job trying to combat.

Chuck,
I am not hung up on semantics...I just think that when we are writing about anyone in Position, especially, someone like Petraeus (okay, that was hard for me not to include, "General") we should give him respect each and every time...but you are right, my opinion shouldn't have taken away from your message and I hope the readers will see past that.

And Chuck, thank you for your hard work, patriotism and service to our Country...I hope you don't think that I challenged that.

For me...ultimately...if Barack HUSEIN Obama (no respect there as you can see I dropped Senator-ha ha;) ) were to ever win the election and he gave the order to pull out in 16 months...his order would be met with major resistance from our Military Leaders, but ultimately our Military Leaders would have to follow the order from their Commander. Whether they liked it or not and whether we liked it or not. They would carry out their order and probably retire shortly there after. Hopefully, then, they would write a book about "Lack of Strength and Leadership from a Muslim President".

I agree with you that this is a sad state of affairs. Barack HUSEIN Obama has flip-flopped on the war (and every other issue) so many times...my head is spinning. He "wants to bring a couple Battalions home each month until the last soldier is home"...approximately 16 months, but yet, he wants to "Beef up our soldiers in Afghanistan". Does that make sense to you? It shouldn't make sense to the public but yet they are so hypnotized by Barack HUSEIN Obama that they will believe anything that he says without researching it. These aren't just the 20'somethings either. In S.C. where I live, a big fat RED State, the 30-44 year olds (24% voted for Obama) and 45-59 year olds (34% voted for Obama). Talk about something scary...the Democrats out voted the Republicans by 87,000 votes! Yikes!

My opinion is that we will never win the war against terrorism. Sorry to say that, but these terrorists have been fighting for 100's of years and are ready to fight for the next 100 years. These Countries hate us. They raise their children with thoughts of hatred so it will never go away. This is a religious war for them and no one wins in a war like that. The world is different now and we will always be looking over our shoulders to see "what they are thinking of doing next". It is just they way it is now.

People only see that we are spending Billions of $'s fighting a war that we had no business being involved in...but American's are forgetting that the day after 9/11, every American WANTED TO KILL THE PEOPLE THAT DID THIS TO US! (And no, Rev. Wright, America didn't do this to ourselves and No, we didn't start Aids...the monkeys from Africa did that) Almost everyone in Congress voted to go to war. And now they all flip-flop on the issue. I am so tired of our elected officials not standing up for the way they voted. Barack HUSEIN Obama can honestly say that he didn't vote to go to war...that's because he NEVER votes for anything! He just votes "present". How he can stand and say that he never supported this war with a clear conscious I will never know but yet, he wants to beef up soldiers in Afghanistan. I am so confused.

Let me just ask this question...how many times have we been hit since 9/11? Zero. None. It is because of our current President and the Laws that have been passed (monitoring bank transactions, listening to phone calls...etc) that we have been able to keep our citizens and our Country in tact.

Damn these Liberals! They are safe today...because of tough Laws and a tough President.

Chuck, I am on your side...and I am sure, if this were a verbal conversation...we would be in agreement of one another.

What we need to do with this website is band together with a vision, purpose and mission statement to get Sen. McCain elected. Get with the McCain camp in your State and join their team! Let's Get the Vote Out!--Respectfully, Dana
